How to Get a Puppy From Us
First, check to see if we have any puppies currently available on the Litters page.
Second, reach out to us at duckriverretrievers@gmail.com or call us at 586-883-3360. We want to hear from you and get to know what you're looking for in a dog. We want to get a sense of who you are to make sure our pups are going to good homes. We can even do a ZOOM call so that you can see us and our brood as well as get to know us a bit, face-to-face.
Third, get on the list. If puppies are available, you can secure your pick of one with a $200 deposit. If no puppies are currently available, we are happy to put you on a waiting list and you will be notified when we have an upcoming litter.
Finally, prepare for what may be the best dog you have ever owned!
What to Expect When Your Puppy is Ready to Come Home
We will keep you updated about the litter as they are getting close to the rehoming date, which will be at 8 weeks old. We know that many breeders allow puppies to go home as early as six weeks. But we believe that you will have a better dog in the long run it has those extra two weeks with its litter mates. At the 8 week mark, we will schedule new families' pickup times in the order in which deposits were received and "picks" were calculated (see the "pick of the litter" section on your litter's page). If you cannot come and pick out your puppy in person, we may be able to help you do that over the phone and then deliver your puppy to you for an extra fee. Your new puppy will have already gotten its first round of vaccines and been dewormed. It will also have been weaned from its mother, started on solid food, and undergone early neurological stimulation exercises which some scientists argue helps produce healthier, calmer, and more intelligent dogs. You will be given paperwork to get AKC limited registration for your new puppy if you would like it. And when you receive your puppy, we will provide you with a booklet of information about all kinds of things to help you get started!
